In 1875, Joseph Bulova, a native of the Czech Republic, founded the luxury watch company Bulova Watch in New York. At first, Bulova ordered the production of watches from Swiss factories, but in 1912 it was decided to build his own factory. But not in the USA, but in the city of Biel, Switzerland. The best watchmakers of the country were hired there, and over time it paid off - Bulova Watch achieved the desired popularity in America.

Over the years, Bulova Watches has conducted hundreds of experiments to improve the watch’s performance, and most importantly, its accuracy. In many ways, this watch was the first, in particular, they successfully made a non-stop flight of the Atlantic Ocean on the arm of the pilot Charles A. Lindberg, and later traveled to space.

In 1960, the company introduced the Bulova Accutron. These were the first watches in the world that were tuned using a tuning fork with a frequency of 360 Hz, thereby improving the operation of the control mechanical gear transmission. It was driven by a circuit with a single-transistor signal generator, so that the clock did not have to be constantly recharged. Thus, Bulova Accutron became the first electronic watch in the world. Moreover, they were so accurate that they passed the most complicated certification of the US railway service and could be used as a reference for hours at stations and trains.

Bulova watches have become the most accurate not only on Earth, but also in space. In the 60s, NASA introduced their mechanisms into computer technology that controls the launch of rockets - so that the calculations are as accurate as possible. Accutron clockwork has been used in 46 U.S. flights, starting with the launch of the Vanguard rocket in 1958, and ending with landings on the moon.

Bulova was one of two candidates to be the first to visit the lunar surface in the hands of astronauts. The second company was Omega Watches. As a result, in 1971, the Bulova chronograph still appeared on the moon. This watch, due to its accuracy and wear resistance, was worn by David Scott, the head of the Apollo 15 crew, the fourth mission that visited the satellite of our planet. Then this watch, the Bulova Automatic chronograph model # 88510/01, was sold at auction for $ 1,625 million, becoming the most expensive astronaut artifact of all time.

The popularity of Bulova watches eventually reached such proportions that they were honored to become an official gift of the White House Administration. In 2008, the Citizen group decided to buy Bulova Watches, but the management of the company remained the same. Therefore, technology, appearance, and with them the impeccable quality and luxury of watches have not changed. For example, Sir Richard Branson, founder and owner of the Virgin Empire, ordered a Bulova Accutron watch Sir Sir Branson Limited Edition, of which only 500 were produced, and now you can buy the only Bulova watch on the official website for $ 2,890.

By the way, 93% of Americans with incomes of more than one hundred thousand dollars a year admitted that they wear or once wore a Bulova watch.

Bulova Accutron Conqueror

Take a look at this new Bulova Accutron Conqueror watch. The model was released following the example of the famous Lone Eagle watch, created by the Bulova brand in memory of Colonel Charles A. Lindbergh. In 1927, he independently made a grandiose flight across the Atlantic Ocean.

This limited edition watch looks really amazing. The watches are made in a beautiful barrel-shaped case made of stainless steel with elegant engraving along the edges. The case is very similar to the 1927 Lone Eagle. The watch is equipped with a Swiss automatic movement Dubois-Depraz 31340. It is certified by the COSC as a chronometer, which means extremely high quality caliber. The white dial is equipped with Arabic numerals and central hour and minute hands, coated with a luminescent substance. Accutron Conqueror watches are supplemented with GMT function, a 24-hour indicator is located on the edge of the dial. The watch is equipped with a crocodile leather strap.

The price of $ 4900 seems a bit overpriced, but not insanely large, given that only 200 copies of this watch with excellent finishes and high-quality equipment will be released.

Bulova Precisionist Champlain

The Bulova Precisionist collection has a new model of men's watches —Champlain, the most accurate for today and with the smoothest second hand.

The Bulova Precisionist Champlain watch is equipped with a modern P102.10 quartz movement with the highest balance frequency - 262.144 KHz, which helps reduce the adverse effects of temperature changes. In terms of accuracy, there is no equal to this caliber among quartz movements. The accuracy of the average quartz movement is +/- 15 seconds per month, while the accuracy of the P102.10 caliber is +/- 10 seconds per year. In addition, the second hand moves very smoothly. Typically, in a watch with a quartz movement, the hand makes 1 step per second, and in a mechanical watch, it takes 8-10 steps per second. The second hand of the Bulova Precisionist Champlain takes 15 steps per second.

Cutting-edge technology is combined in the new Bulova Precisionist Champlain with a delightfully sophisticated design. The embossed dial is made of black carbon fiber and protected by durable mineral glass. The hour markers and hands are coated with a luminescent compound. At the 3 o'clock position is a date aperture that displays, in addition to the current number, the previous and next.

The Bulova Precisionist Champlain is enclosed in a round case with a screw-down crown and a back case made of titanium or stainless steel. Case diameter - 46.5 mm. Water resistance is up to 300 m. Depending on the case material, the Bulova Precisionist Champlain model can be presented on a bracelet made of titanium or steel, or on a strap made of rubber or heavy-duty nylon fiber.

Inside the watch is an automatic movement SW200 Sellita on 26 stones.

The new Bulova Accutron Kirkwood Skeleton watch is presented on a brown leather strap with a pattern imitating alligator skin or a stainless steel bracelet.

Bulova - brand history

The watch, which bears the title "Official Gift of the White House Administration" and is ahead of the popularity of Cartier, Omega and Longines among American millionaires, is called Bulova.

In North America, literally everyone knows watches with the legendary tuning fork on the dial. Suffice it to say that 93 percent of Americans whose income exceeds $ 100,000 a year said they wore or once wore them.

And this is not surprising, because Bulova entered the history of not only watch manufacturing, but also advertising. Еще в 1926 году радиосигнал точного времени на первой коммерческой радиостанции Соединенных Штатов сопровождался звуковой заставкой: “At the tone, it’s 8 P.M., B.U.L.O.V.A., Bulova watch time”.

Driven by the great American dream, the 23-year-old immigrant from Bohemia Joseph Bulova, opening a jewelry store in New York, knew very well that success could be achieved only on one condition - by offering the customer the best product at the best prices.

Having caught the spirit of the times (immigrants of the largest second wave got rich and began to equip their nests), on the eve of World War I, Bulov began production of interior and pocket watches in collaboration with watchmakers from Switzerland.

Very soon (and, we note, much earlier than the competition), an entrepreneurial immigrant, who has become a 100% American in his business style, begins to produce watches - first men’s, and there’s women’s, sensitively listening to the market’s needs for accuracy, reliability and beauty.

Indeed, in his soul he remained a sentimental European, which was manifested, of course, in the elegant appearance of the dials with clearly written numbers, the filigree finish of the cases, which do not seem old-fashioned today.

However, life forced him to be an American. Almost simultaneously with Henry Ford, who put automobile production on the conveyor, the penetrating Czech introduces a fundamentally new concept of watch production, which is based on the complete standardization of all parts of the watch movement.

This step not only reduced the cost of production, but also revolutionized the maintenance and repair of watches. Work ahead of the curve (of technologies, ideas, time itself) allowed Bulova to invest in scientific research on a grand scale (in 1928 the company offers the world's first clock radio, in 1931 - electric), in support of related areas of technology (in 1929 - Patents a fundamentally new automobile watch), sports (in 1926 - announces a prize to a pilot who will make a transatlantic flight alone).

The first of the watchmakers around the world, the cunning Czech began to invest more than a million dollars a year in advertising his products. It was at the beginning of the crisis thirties, and the then dollar "weighed" 12.5 times heavier.

Thanks to the financial genius of Bulova, who died in 1935, the company successfully survived the Great American Depression, almost without reducing sales - the watches were willingly sold in installments. Even the poorest American in those difficult years was well aware that time is money, and the exact time from Bulova is money.

But the true heyday of the company, which brought it worldwide fame, came in the late 50s, when the famous Accutron was born - a fundamentally new watch with an accuracy of +/- 2 seconds per day (minute per month).

The inventors of Accutron were Swiss Max Hetzel and American Wi-Ou Bennet, who dared to turn over the basic principles of classic watches. The Accutron mechanism was not driven by a pendulum, but by an oscillator in the form of a small tuning fork 25 mm long. The watch had only 12 moving parts.

The tuning fork frequency - 360 hertz - was unusually high for watch oscillators of that time. Frequency constancy was supported by an electronic circuit with permanent magnets built into both tuning fork consoles.

The accuracy of this watch, invented in 1952, exceeded all standards that were conceivable in those days for watches. In 1960, Bulova began to mass-produce the Accutron-214 wrist, which made a pleasant musical sound instead of the usual ticking.

For 17 years, this watch has remained the most accurate on Earth and in space - Accutron technology has been used by the US National Aerospace Agency in 46 US space missions, from Explorer, SkyLab and satellites to the lunar car.

In 1969, the Akkutron timer fell into the Sea of Tranquility on the Moon, where it was brought on the Apollo-11 ship by the first lunar people Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, who soon became the Bulova envoy to the whole world. The fame of the “space tuning fork” was so great that the company chose it as a symbol. Today, all Bulova watches are marked with the image of the famous tuning fork, or turning fork.

Accutron was used on the railways of America, and President Linden Johnson declared it "the official gift of the White House administration." Since then, the watch has not lost a grain of accuracy, becoming the legitimate pride of collectors and watch lovers. Of particular value are models with a transparent front window that allows you to see the unique mechanism of the “tuning fork”

As expected, the era of innovation in watchmaking did not stop at Accutron. In the mid-70s, the tuning fork was replaced by a quartz resonator, and the market was subdued by a cheap and accurate electronic watch. Bulova also experienced difficulties, which flatly refused to curtail the production of classical mechanics. And I must say, Joseph Bulova turned out to be a brilliant seer.

In difficult years, the firm has been well served by its long-standing ties to radio and television, or rather, millions invested in brand advertising. In 1979, after five years of struggle for existence, the brand was taken under its wing by Loews Corporation, a giant empire of the Tisch brothers.

The older Larry was called the “CBS Man,” America's largest broadcasting company. However, the businessman, who had been included in the Forbes version of the world's wealthiest for over 20 years, did not limit his interests to the media: he also received profit from hotels, cinemas, insurance companies, and tobacco.

Using the “calculator and scalpel” method, the Tisch brothers sought out the most profitable industries, ruthlessly cutting off all units that caused losses. This strategy has also been applied to the Bulova range. Oddly enough, it worked. In just a year, the company not only got out of debt, but also brought $ 8 million in net profit!

The stake was made, as usual, on the originality of design and outstripping demand. Empire watch brand Loews pays great attention to the development of fashion watches and the development of new markets, the production of miniature and jewelry models.

In addition, the current impressive Bulova range consists of watches with sophisticated features, solar-powered watches, quartz, mechanical, vibration and sound, watches for Harley-Davidson motorcycle fans, miniature precious metal interior models for collectors ... All in all, Bulova collections have everything that can conquer the soul of the most demanding consumer.

Having regained its leading position in the USA, in 2002 Bulova invaded Europe, moving headquarters from New York to Swiss Friborg for this purpose. Designed by the best American designers, watches with the Swiss Made label began to successfully capture the markets of the Old World. At the same time, Bulova models are faithful to their own tradition - they are distinguished by their captivating appearance and affordable prices.

The creators of watches pay special attention, of course, to jewelry watches and the collection, which bears the company's direct name - Bulova. These are round, square, rectangular cases, “barrels”, mother-of-pearl dials, steel, gold, crystal and sapphire crystals, precious stones ¬¬- the wealth of choice is striking in its truly American scale.

All of them, of course, are equipped only with Swiss mechanisms, cases and other accessories, and are assembled by Swiss masters. Only the prices of Bulova watches can hardly be called Swiss: the price range ranges from 500 euros (classic mechanical watches in a steel case) to 3200 euros (automatic in gold).

Let's say an excellent chronograph will cost 840 euros. Well, as a bonus, you get the big name Bulova and the legendary tuning fork on the dial. In general, space clocks at earthly prices.
